Lancer Casem is a multidisciplinary artist, born & raised in the Philippines and currently based in Detroit, Michigan. Lancer graduated from the College for Creative Studies in Detroit, MI in 2019 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography. Throughout Lancer’s current existence and navigation in Detroit, the exploration and examination of her birth country–the Philippines–has begun to unfold through the juxtaposition of both worlds. With the memories of what her life was like before America, Lancer continues to navigate her personal and social space through a constant documentation with a focus on lens based work. While the exploration of merging traditional and digital techniques evolved her practice above the medium, Lancer creates and expresses cultural boundaries through the use of film, performance, installations and more. As a disc-jockey, Lancer extends her visual expression to the sonic medium by scoring endless nights that bring the community of Detroit together.
